WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Sometimes other people react to something you said or did, and you have absolutely no idea why.
Can’t I Just Be Me? helps kids understand some of the unwritten rules of communication: the messages we send with our faces, bodies, voices, and words, even when we don’t realize we’re sending them.
It’s not about changing who you are. It’s about helping the person you are on the inside come through on the outside.
Being understood doesn’t mean being someone else.
Listening, speaking up, understanding other people, handling big feelings, working through disagreements, and asking for help are all skills. And skills get better with practice.
Sometimes you’ll get it right. Sometimes you’ll realize ten minutes later what you wish you had said. Sometimes someone will misunderstand you.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s learning how to understand yourself, connect with other people, and let them see more clearly who you really are.
What are you really saying?
-
Your Face
Your expression can send a message before you say a word. Learning what other people may see can help you make sure your face matches what you mean.
-
Your Body
Posture, gestures, distance, and movement all communicate. Paying attention to body language can help you understand other people and make yourself easier to understand.
-
Your Voice
Volume and tone can change what the same words seem to mean. Learning to notice them helps your message come across the way you intended.
You don’t have to be perfect.
Can’t I Just Be Me? gives kids practical ways to communicate, handle misunderstandings, work through difficult moments, and develop their own voice.
Because being seen, heard, and understood starts with being able to show people who you already are.
